1,000 Days: The Ministry of Christ

1000 days: The Ministry of Christ is a Jonathan Falwell's new devotional book that teaches about Jesus time on this earth. This book presents the final three years of the life of Jesus Christ. The author paints a picture for us detailing how Christ responds to temptation, to victory, to selecting followers, to questions, to suffering, and even to death. Some of the topics covered in this book are:

* Jesus uses simple people to illustrate teachings and to represent him.
* The source of true happiness is only God.
* Jesus focuses on relationships instead of popularity.
* A look at hypocritical followers of Christ.
* Life is not about stuff - less is best.
* How Jesus wants us to live based on his lessons from the cross

This book is a great introductory study to the life of Christ. While Jonathan does supply some insights from the Greek, this book is not at all difficult to understand and would be good for new believers.

The Voice New Testament

The Voice is an interesting Bible, it reads like a story. While I don't recommend this Bible for in-depth study it is great for new believers or even devotional reading. The purpose of this Bible was for the New Testament to read as a story and it does just that. The speaker identification and resources throughout the text make this Bible very easy to follow. The language of this Bible is simplistic yet it is this simplicity that aids in the reader being able to fully comprehend the text. Overall, I am very pleased with this Bible and would be happy to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fresh way of reading the same Bible stories.

I received this book through the Booksneeze program and am under no obligation to give a positive review.

Heroes and Villians of the Bible

When I saw this book I immediatly thought of my 12 year old brother. He has a Bible comic book and after seeing this I knew he would enjoy "Heroes and Villians of the Bible" as well. With a young boy dressed as a vicking and comic style writing on the cover what young boy wouldn't at least be tempted to pick it up?  I enjoyed the fact that this book helps children decide how to either be a "Hero" or "Villian" based off the choices they make. Children learn that real heroes choose God.

At the end of each story there is a summary of important things to learn and questions to consider. We use the questions as starting point to further discussion. The illustrations in this book are well done and help children to visualize the characters in the Bible. I really like that this book helps children define what are godly character traits since so many times we are told that we should behave "Christian" or "godly" but don't exactly know what that means or should look like. With this book those types are questions are being answered in a manner children can easily understand and into practice.

The Book of Man

As a response to the lack of leadership and true manhood in today's society William Bennett as compiled a collection of stories The Book of Man is broken down into 6 sections...

Including:

Man in War
Man at Work
Man in Play, Competition, and Leisure
Man in the Polis
Man wth Woman and Children
Man in Prayer and Reflection
The Book of Man upholds a traditional, moral and religious view of man, even though many of the selections are from men who are not specifically Christian or even religious. I would recommend this book for people that work with men and boys such as counselors, teachers, etc. I would also recommend this book for men that want to take a look at what manhood looks like throughout history and today.

No Wonder They Call Him The Savior

Max Lucado is one of my favorite authors and with this book that is no exception. In his own unique style of writing, the author takes you on a vivid journey of discovery as you see the Cross, and the characters who "surround" it, from a new light. No other book I have ever read connected me emotionally to Jesus the way "No Wonder They Call Him Savior" did. Max Lucado is really writing to people who have broken hearts and who can find a lonely person simply by looking in the mirror. The land of promise is for those who endure the pain and suffering and are reborn. All who are Christians, and those who simply desire to know more of the Christian religion, should give serious consideration to reading this book. You'll be glad you did.

100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs

Each of the 100 stories are illustrated, have a key verse, a short prayer, and a song that goes with that lesson. The short stories have stories from the Bible or the author's childhood. All the stories intertwine Biblical principles in them with application for today. The songs are clearly marked on the devotional page. So, you will know which CD and which song number goes with that story. Some of the songs are classic songs such as "Now the Day is Over," others are newer upbeat songs such as the one that goes with the title of this review. The songs have children's voices singing with some adults.  If you are looking for a devotional for young children or even just a Christian Children's music CD, this does not disappoint.
